Understanding People Is Harder Than We Think

Understanding people is harder than we think. I came across a piece by David Brooks. His point is very simple: most of us don't really take time to understand others. We react fast, form an opinion, and move on.

But real understanding takes something else. You need to slow down. You need to pay attention. You need to let the other person finish. Not every conversation needs advice. Not every moment needs a response. Sometimes, just giving someone space to speak is enough.

Sounds simple. Most of the time, the simplest things are the toughest to do, because we overlook them. This connects with my philosophy: the easiest way to connect with someone is to give them space first, then listen. Many are going through a lot. Most are just looking for that space, and someone who will listen.
